Yavapai County's Specialty and Light Manufacturers' Association, SLIM, was founded to improve the manufacturing environment in Yavapai County. Located in Northern Arizona, the membership includes companies of all sizes, and generally represents the majority of manufacturing companies in the area that are engaged in industrial operations producing products for local, national and global distribution.
SLIM's Mission is to take a leadership role to advance the competitiveness and development of the manufacturing industries through improving the business climate. Our particular focus is to:
Identify present and future workforce capabilities required and then work across all the educational institutions to ensure that training and development is established to provide the highest quality and stable human resource pool possible;
Identify and develop the conditions necessary for our members to create a thriving business environment for the retention, attraction and growth of this industry within the region;
Exchange and develop practical approaches to environmental, safety regulatory requirements to help members become world competitive organizations;
The development of a network of companies so that information and ideas can be readily exchanged on crucial subjects such as collaborative marketing, cooperative purchasing, import/export, workforce legislation, environmental regulations, business process best practices and special project collaboration;
Support and provide expert guidance to the development of programs that will retain and attract manufacturing companies in the region by strong cooperation with local governments, state government, economic development groups, educational institutions and investors.
SLIM's Vision is that in five year's time it will be reported that "Some of the most innovative products are manufactured in the Yavapai Region by the Specialty and Light Manufacturing Industry." The manufacturing companies have dramatically increased their competitiveness in the global markets that they serve over the last five years by:
Exporting their products outside the local market,
Gaining strong financial performance,
Developing a pipeline of talented workers,
Tending to pay higher wages,
Utilizing outsourced services, thus further amplifying employment.
Therefore, the Manufacturers of the Yavapai Region are prized contributors to the local economy and community development.
